CONSULTANT CARDIOLOGIST WITH AN INTEREST IN CORONARY INTERVENTION (WITH THE ADDITION OF STRUCTURAL HEART DISEASE EXPERIENCE)
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Cardiology with an interest in intervention.
This post is a new appointment in East Sussex Healthcare Trust based at the Eastbourne Hospital with cross site working for a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in intervention. The substantive post will potentially have sessions to undertake structural intervention at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
The cross site department consists of eleven Consultant Cardiologists, eight specialising in intervention alone or with electrophysiology and devices, two in heart failure and imaging and one in EP/devices alone.
The Trust is active in all aspects of invasive cardiology. The cross site department undertakes approximately 800 intervention procedures including IVUS, FFR, Rotablation, in three intervention Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories across both sites. In addition there is a pacing suite and all forms of device implantation (ICD, CRT-P and CRT-D). We also offer a full electrophysiology service including treatments for VT, AF, AT and basic ablation. Both sites are configured on a ‘cardiac village’ model with all aspects of the service co-located.
Cardiology at the Trust has a culture of innovation and there are well developed non-invasive cardiac investigation services on both sites. Comprehensive cardiovascular imaging services include transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography (including 3D TTE and TOE), pharmacological and exercise stress echocardiography with the capability for simultaneous cardiopulmonary exercise testing. There is a specific heart valve service including a physiologist led valve follow up program. The echo department at Eastbourne is BSE accredited. There is a well- established cardiac CT service on both sites performing over 800 cases per year, as well as an active nuclear cardiology service. Cardiac MRI is available locally
A primary infarct PCI service is offered across site for the patients of East Sussex. There are 200 primary presentations with STEMI and a PCI service with approximately 500 urgent PCI’s per annum.
An appropriately trained candidate will be offered structural sessions at the Sussex County Hospital in Brighton in addition to the requirement to provide a full intervention service to ESHT. The candidate will support general cardiology ward rounds covering the Coronary Care Units, and outpatient clinic support at both sites.
There is an active research programme across both sites with ten successful MD degrees achieved in the last 20 years. The cross site department runs one stop clinics for general cardiology and provides a variety of specialist clinics including a rapid access chest pain services, a rapid access heart failure service, complex hyperlipidemia clinics and rapid access arrhythmia clinics, the successful candidate will be expected to support these services.
The new appointee will be expected to aid and advance the provision of the comprehensive modern cardiology service now available to all the patients of East Sussex.
An interest in percutaneous management of structural heart disease would be advantageous to the applicant.
