ESHT is committed to offering new employees an apprenticeship programme of study to support their role. Please ask when you apply/at interview if you are keen to undertake a programme and we can check if there is a suitable one available to match your role (the opportunities available are changing all the time, there may not be something for you at the time of your appointment but a programme may be written over the coming months which suits you). Apprenticeships are available at level 2 (GCSE equivalent) right up to Degree or Masters level so don’t forget to check with us.
We are looking for highly motivated Sisters to join our established Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at the Conquest Hospital. You will need to have a keen interest in neonates and be committed to delivering a high standard of patient care, whilst maintaining your own personal professional development. We will provide a supportive environment and are committed to the professional development of our staff.
The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) is situated within the Maternity sector of the Conquest Hospital and can provide care for up to 12 babies at any one time. It is a ‘level one unit’ which means that the level of care provided is for babies of 31 weeks gestation and above. Ideally, babies below this gestation should be transferred to a level 3 unit in-utero. However, if this is not possible they will be stabilised after birth within SCBU and then retrieved by the Neonatal Network Transport Team, and transferred to a tertiary centre. In addition to premature infants, a baby may also be admitted to SCBU if they require more care than that which can be provided by the mother with the support of a Midwife.
The unit operates on an 11.5 hr shift system on an internal rotation shift basis. Team working is an integral part of the running of our SCBU and this is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to join our team.
Please note a qualification in neonates and a mentorship qualification are essential.
Part of this role will be to work as the Practice Development Nurse for the unit. (See additional JD).
The clinical/ education ratio will be discussed at interview.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
